Beginning with the client’s
own resources, where do we go to find the answer to the problem?
1. Client Knows
Usually the client knows. Assume the client knows.
Surely, they’ve tried different things; find out what those were.
They may have forgotten a similar situation earlier in their career
or their life that they handled successfully.
They may be distracted by their own emotion or stress around the
problem at this time.
They may simply need an intelligent questioner to get them to re-connect
with their creative side or with their analytical side.
They may simply need someone to tell them, “You know how to do this.”
2. Coach Knows
Usually the coach has an idea. But, you don’t need to know THE answer.
Does the client even want a suggestion?
Can you lead the client to their own solution?
3. Who Knows? (Team
100)
Somebody knows.
Coach University has a form where you can list 100 resource people in
4 or 5 categories. Every coach needs one filled in -- every client
needs one filled in. A coach is a resource center, not a know-it-all ....
and you do have useful information.
